Pulling off a bob with extremely thick hair?

For any hair experts out there, I was hoping you could give me advice on my hair.

I have extremely thick hair. I'm talkin' HEAVY. Like, every new stylist I go to tells me that I have the absolute thickest hair they've ever seen. They thin it out (which takes a half hour at least) and it's still very full and heavy. I've been wearing my hair long with layers recently, but I used to wear it in a bob when I was little (my hair was a little thinner then). My question is: can people with thick hair pull off a bob? Will it take a lot to maintain it? My current routine is flat-ironing every other day, as my hair is naturally wavy.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

It would work for you if you layered it to turn under and textured it by thinning the base line. I would definitely spend money to get a good cut. Otherwise it would be too full.

well, i also have thick slightly wavy hair. i have mine short right now and i hate it. i think shoulder length is best as you can pull it up and not 'fix' it %26amp; it takes much of the weight off for long hair

i have to dry and straighten mine too, or dry and curl it, depending on which way i like my hair. layers are a must (to take off weight). also, have to use product for frizzies.

good luck. if i were you, though, i'd stick to shoulder length. that way you get best of both worlds.

You might want to ask your stylist to shave the bottom layers of your hair on your neckline. This should hap your bob feel and look lighter. She can also do reverse layers so that the the bottom layers of your hair are cut much shorter than the top layer of the bob so that it appears thinner but still likes as though it is one length to anyone who is looking at you.

I, too, have thick(er) hair. But not extremely thick like yours sounds. I just got a haircut...yesterday in fact. I have longish hair with layers and that has always worked for me. But before I got a haircut I was actually thinking about getting a bob. I asked my hairdresser about getting one and he said that I could pull it off because people with thicker hair it looks better on because it supposedly makes your hair look thinner and people with thin hair it makes it look even thinner. So I think you could definetly pull it off.

My sister has the same things happen to her. Her hair is extremely thick. She, however, has had it short recently and it looks great. Make sure you get the ends "Channeled", cut with a razor, and use thinning shears. As for maintenance, try using Super Straight, or Super Skinny shampoo, it will help keep the volume of the hair down. Hope this helps.
